Einstein You may recall me mentioning… Holy Wow! had an absurdly long gestation period. As it all finally came tumbling out… I was surprised how often I quoted Albert Einstein. I hadn’t intended to quote him so much. He just kept showing up with the perfect thing to say. That Einstein! Here’s a guy who truly had his finger stuck in the electric socket of Life. Mostly his reputation is one of scientific brilliance. Curiosity. Inquiry. Probing. Curious about the properties of light and physics. Probing myriad other intriguing matters. Einstein challenged and changed the way we view our world. Not as widely recognized… Einstein was a deeply philosophical man. Spiritual. Wise. Insightful. Providing fresh, astute perceptions about being human. Reflections of ourselves. For us to ponder and realize. One of my favorite observations from Albert Einstein:
“Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.” As if spoken from experience. Worth a ponder. Einstein is frequently associated with the making of the atomic bomb. He did not work directly on making the bomb. However, his seminal work in physics… (E = mc2)… made the atomic bomb theoretically possible. He was deeply regretful his own exceptional research and realization had been utilized to such devastating ends. Speaking in the aftermath of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki… Einstein made 2 comments. One prescient… the other poignant. Commenting on the tremendous power unleashed by splitting the atom… leading to the creation of the atomic bomb… he warned, “The unleashed power of the atom has changed everything save our modes of thinking and we thus drift toward unparalleled catastrophe.” Einstein also said… “If I had known they were going to do this, I would have become a cobbler.”
